22 new Sprites are live — Bounty Hunter arrives, and Morgana joins the catalog

Thursday's unlock went off on schedule. The Bounty Hunter variants switched on Thursday, September 24 at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET, and a hotfix the same day brought Morgana in with its full set. That is 22 new Sprites in one day — seventeen Bounty Hunters and five Morganas — and all of them are in the catalog now.

This is the second half of the v42.20 drop. Of everything that went into the files on September 17, only the Birthday Sprite is still locked.

The Bounty Hunter line

Bounty Hunter is the fifth variant tier, and it plays nothing like the other four. Every Bounty Hunter Sprite carries the same bonus on top of its base power: a chance to find another Sprite when you eliminate an opponent. And they level from eliminations and nothing else. Chests, extractions and Sprite XP pickups do not move the bar.

Seventeen went live on Thursday, all Special rarity:

  • Bounty Hunter Jonesy, 8-Bit, Adventure, Bush, Storm Scout
  • Bounty Hunter Sonic, Tails, Shadow
  • Bounty Hunter Jackrabbit, Killswitch, Klombo
  • Bounty Hunter Overshield, X-Ray, Onigiri
  • Bounty Hunter Blinky, Crash Bandicoot, Pond

Add the Bounty Hunter Crown from September 17 and Bounty Hunter Morgana below, and the tier is at nineteen.

How to get your first one

The catch with a tier that drops from eliminations is getting the first one. Your options:

  • Cheat Codes. The September 17 Cheat Code changes apply here too, so Legendary codes are the best bet.
  • Eliminate someone who has one equipped. The drop chance is being widely reported at around 7% per elimination once you have a Bounty Hunter of your own equipped. Epic has not published a number, so treat that as community testing, not gospel.
  • Trade for one. More on that at the bottom.

Once you have one equipped, every elimination is a roll for the next.

Two exceptions

Bounty Hunter Crown still follows Crown rules. It only levels by winning matches, same as every other Crown.

Bounty Hunter Klombo also has its own mastery rule, reportedly tied to feeding it healing items rather than eliminations. We are waiting on the in-game text before we put it on the card.

Morgana

Morgana — Epic. The Persona 5 Sprite. Healing items are more effective while it is equipped, and the bonus grows with each Level Up.

It did not wait for a date after all. Epic slipped Morgana in by hotfix on Thursday alongside the Bounty Hunters, with all five cards at once:

  • Morgana (Epic)
  • Gold Morgana, Cheat Master Morgana, Loot Hacker Morgana, Bounty Hunter Morgana (all Special)

If you play a lot of Zero Build or lean on Med Kits and Chug Jugs, this is the pickup of the week. It is the only Sprite in the season built entirely around healing.

Still locked

Birthday Sprite — due today, Saturday, September 26. It is expected to arrive with the Fortnite Birthday Power Hour, along with its Gold, Cheat Master, Loot Hacker and Bounty Hunter versions. Chests have a chance to serve up slices of cake when opened, and at max Sprite Level, elims can too. Epic has slipped Sprite unlocks before, so we will post when it is actually live.

Tracking and trading them

All 22 are in the catalog with artwork and full cards. Mark each one Missing, Collected, or Mastered from the website or with the slash commands in Discord.

The Bounty Hunter tier is the first one where trading really earns its keep. If you are not an elimination-heavy player, getting a friend to hand you a Bounty Hunter is a lot faster than hoping for a Cheat Code. Anything you own can be offered in a trade with members of a Discord server you share.
